Hey Brooksy

I love you, man!

Not much to report

I'm a little depressed and a lot stressed right now.
So much at once... but don't you worry your pretty little heads about me! I'll pull through. I always do!
I've got a whole house full of love and some of the best friends a girl could ask for. :-)

People are still not de-lurking. Out of 15 readers today, I got 2 comments. Shame, shame. But thanks to Nicole and Rebecca. And Thayer- I figured you out pretty easily!
I'll get the rest of you, my pretties! I am figuring out who is who... one by one! Muahahaha!
Just keep on hiding. ;-)

I'm back on myspace- as a few people already know.
There's a Link down there and to the right...
but you MUST delurk to see that page. I'm all about private this go-round!

Hmmm... what else...?

My in-laws got remarried, after 33 years of marriage. Lol.
Congrats to Ronnie and Connie- although *I* wouldn't have jumped off that bridge again. ;-) (kidding, guys- really!)

Here's a cute little family at the wedding...

and the bride and groom

other than all of the above- things have been relatively boring around here.
Too wet and muddy for the kids to play outside. Gas is too expensive to take them anywhere... (ya know, since we live in BFE and it takes half a tank to get to civilization and back)
So they've been tearing apart the house for a couple of weeks. Weeee... :-P

We've all adjusted to life without Jack pretty well. Especially me. lol.
Fiona is getting round and lazy. I'd guess we're about halfway to baby kitties...

I guess that's it for me!
I'll update soon with something witty and interesting. I just don't have the energy for that today!

Whole wheat rotini with a (turkey) marinara sauce

... on a kid's plate.

For Shannon.

Because I am cool enough to blog my food, too. Heehee.
Not that it's a special dish, or that I am particualraly proud of it in any way- but in a show of solidarity, and because I made fun of her- I promised Shannon I would blog whatever I cooked yesterday!
It was actually quite yummy, though. I got the sauce just *perfect*. I can't wait for the leftovers!

I see you!

Okay, my dear blog readers...
I installed a stat counter on this blog- and WOW! I've got more of an audience than I expected!
I had no idea I was so popular. Heehee.

So... I am dying to know who's reading! Leave me a comment, come into the light, you LURKERS! ;-)
I want to know who I'm talking to!

A forever home!

YAY!
I am so happy!
We broke down and put Jack-Jack on Craigslist tonight. It was hard, but we had to find him a home SOON.
15 minutes after I posted- Cotton got a phone call. It was a lady that wanted to meet tonight and get him. The reception was bad, but they worked out a time and place.
The he got ANOTHER phone call asking about Jack... but had to just take her number.
THEN I checked my email and had a message from a very sweet couple that sounded PERFECT for little BJJ. But we had already promised to meet lady #1. So, bummed out, we loaded him and his stuff to go.
In the car, I tell Cotton about the couple that emailed, and how I hoped this lady would bail so that we could give BJJ to them. He said "what was the girl's name?" I said "Linda, I think." "Funny," he replies "that's this lady's name."
The phone kept breaking up, but he was pretty sure that his Linda said she emailed us, too. (Linda ACTUALLY being Lisa, FYI)
YEP! It was them! Woohoo!

They were so sweet and cute, and I know Jack is going to be so happy there! :-D

Father's Day confession

I am no good at making pancakes. In fact, I downright SUCK at it.
I was quite near tears as I either burned or mangled each and every flapjack for Cotton's brunch today.

I have many talents. I am actually a pretty decent cook. But pancake making will obviously NEVER be a talent I possess. :-S

Lucy is happy

Jack is back.
Emmitt is beyond ecstatic.

Mommy is not happy.

He's only here for a while, though. I've got a couple of good leads, for GOOD homes. Hopefully something will pan out soon. I'm at the end of my rope.

And I also just want to thank the very good friends who offered support while I was feeling like the worst mom ever. THANK YOU. I was having an awful time, and your kind words really helped!

Her first broken heart

Poor Lucy.
I'm a horrible mother. I never imagined that she was capable of so much grief!

Jack-Jack had to go live with future Auntie Ashley.
For a variety of reasons, things just weren't going well with him here.

I talked this all over with Jacob, and he agreed that it would be good to let Ashley have Jack.
However, I did NOT consult Lucy on the matter. She's just a baby, right? She probably wouldn't even notice that he was gone...

Wrong. DEAD WRONG!

As soon as she caught onto what Uncle Bonk was doing (loading Jack and all of his belongings into the car), she buried her face in the couch and refused to talk to me.
After they left, she WAILED and sobbed for over an hour. :-(
"I want Baby Jack-Jack to STAY. I want BJJ to come back to ME!" She even cried out for him in her sleep!

Needless to say- my heart broke right along with hers.
How could I be so inconsiderate? How could I dismiss her opinion on something like this? She had no warning. She had no input. I just ripped her little dog from her loving hands. :-(
I am a shitty mom, folks. At least I feel like one today.

Lesson learned.
My baby is NOT "just a baby." She deserves to be involved in decisions, and feel like her voice is heard. She honestly loves, and grieves. She is capable of much more emotion than I thought.. somewhere along the way she grew up on me, and I failed to notice!

Of course, while she cried over the puppy, I rocked her to sleep and sang to help her calm down. She slept in my arms, and wrapped her tiny fingers around mine. She's not all *that* big it seems....

Today she asked for Jack a few times, but no tears. She loved on Emmitt. We talked about the baby kittens that we are expecting, and that made her smile. She also told me more than once that we need to "go to the baby store and get a sister." :-)

The storm has passed. She's my little ray of sunshine once again!

Meez

Heehee.

So this is my hair on a good day, with a little luck and a lot of QT with the flat iron. I borrowed my body from 10 yrs ago.
The clothes and the living room look about right.

Happy...

Do you ever have one of those days- when nothing can get you down?

Not an annoying phone call...
Not your poor, scalped, mortified 5 year old...
Not running into someone you absolutely can't stand at the grocery store...
Not even dog diarrhea on the carpet?

I'm just plain happy. Nothing is going to wipe this smile off my face today! :-)

Too funny, and true, not to share

from "It's a Mom Thing: Real World Insights"

1. I still try to buy cute underwear, but not too cute, because what
do you think got me into this mess?

2. There's no place like home: Unless you can get a babysitter. Then,
go! Get Out! Hurry!

3. The longest distance between two points is a 2-year-old who wants
to walk all by himself.

4. Moms need friends, because you gotta have someone to cuss in front of.

5. Those last 5 post-baby pounds are impossible to lose! Especially
when you haven't lost the first 20!

6. Weird how having a baby makes you remember to take that birth
control pill. And sometimes two, just in case

7. Yeah, I'd say being a mom has changed my style. Obliterated is a
change, right?

8. So, if I become a stay-at-home mom, does that mean the kids have to
stay home, too? Just checking.

9. Wow...I must've kidproofed the cleaning supply cabinet a little too
well. Apparently, even my husband can't get into it!

10. Children are a gift. A gift where you're like, "Wow, who knew a
gift could make you so tired and lumpy?"

11. Changing diapers...folding clothes...making dinner...It' s so cute
when husbands reach a new developmental milestone!

12. My friend...my rock...my partner...my portable DVD player! (Amen
to that one!)

13. You can fool some of the people all of the time, but it's ****
near impossible to look cool carrying a diaper bag.

14. Parenting magazines are perfect for those times when you're not
feeling inadequate enough on your own.

15. Shouldn't running errands count as exercise? Hello...it's called
"running!"

16. I try not to offend other moms, because you never know who's
carrying around an arsenal of scrapbooking scissors!

17. Kids grow up too fast! Unless they're throwing a fit in public.
Then --- geez...grow up already! Get a move on!

18. When it's that time of the month and there is only one cookie left
in the house, that is not the time to teach the kids how to share.

19. Like any mom, I have dreams for my kids. Picking up their own
socks...sleeping past 7 AM on the weekend...(my dreams are small.)

20. I can't believe how BIG my kids are! Especially the one I married!

21. RELAX! Nowhere on your gravestone is it gonna say, "She gave her
kids too much soda."

22. I hate it when my in-laws butt in. Unless it includes babysitting.

23. Telling another adult you have to "go potty" doesn't make you
pathetic. Okay, but just a little.

24. Since becoming a mom, I swear I have the attention span of a...did
I forget to eat lunch today?

25. I have unconditional love for my kids. Especially after they've
bathed.

26. Found some "Mom's Day Out" programs. No luck on the "Mom's Month
Out," though.

27. I'm not positive, but I think I can hear a choir of angels
whenever I open the fridge and discover leftovers.

28. When you're in public and you're singing to yourself about a
spider or a teapot or finding a peanut, then yes...you are such a MOM!

29. Show me a mom without stretch marks and I'll show you ---
actually, I'll just sob. Maybe don't show me that mom, 'kay?

30. Like someone once famous said, "Life is what happens when you're
busy making lunches." Or something.

31. Okay fellas. It's not called baby sitting when you watch the kids.
It's called "being a dad." Got it?

32. As a mom, I feel like I'm always second guessing myself. Or am I?
Dang it!

33. There are so many fairy tales I love..."The Mom Who Found Time to
Paint Her Nails." That's a good one.

34. Sure, "firm abs" is on my list of goals. It's right up there with
"bionic legs" and "extra head."

35. If I get fussy, just get a bottle ready for me. The corkscrew is
in the drawer next to the stove.

36. Can someone please send me to time-out? Hour...half- hour...I' ll
sit quietly --- I promise!

37. Nothing hurts like watching your baby grow up. Wait! Decaf. That
hurts, too.

38. They call it a baby "shower" because it may be the last shower you
ever get to enjoy again.

39. "Who's the Tiredest Mom" is not a competition! But if it is...I'm
winning!

40. The longest road you'll ever travel isn't a road at all. It's
called the "cereal aisle."

41. Just because it's a minivan doesn't mean it won't play Zeppelin.

42. Now, "dry cleaning" means I'm able to scrape the stain off with my
fingernail.

43. Family comes first...even during Oprah. Just barely.

44. As if being a mom isn't hard enough already, pretty soon you have
to start spelling. E-V-E-R-Y-T- H-I...oh, I forget!

45. Even the best kids' movie ever will still make you want to put
your head through the TV if you have...to... sit...through.
..it...ONE. ..MORE... TIME!

46. I could really use some home decorating tips. Like what goes with
dog hair and plastic dinosaurs?

47. "What to expect?" (There is a picture of a stork with a baby in
the book) Here, let me sum it up for you real quick ----- 1. Lots of
worry 2. Not lots of sleep

how about some

3 year old ATTITUDE!?

If looks could kill...
Yep, that's mini-me all right. *sigh* She comes by it honestly.

is this all we ever do?

Just a few pics of the "Reel Girls" from today:

Me and my favorite fish of the day

a kiss for this little guy... "thanks for biting!" (no, I did not actually kiss it, lol)

Lucy lu is getting a little braver about touching them. He should really feel lucky that he's not a minnow... we all know how they end up at her hands. Blech.

How else would the BEST FISHERMAN EVER's girls spend a free evening? Lol. Love ya honey!

Relay pics

We dedicate this walk to a very special CANCER SURVIVOR!!!

Relay For Life

Well, it's done.

First of all, we had a BLAST!
The team raised $3011 for American Cancer Society! Woo!
$405 of that was raised by yours truly... go me!

Of course, if there was ever any doubt... I won the costume contest. I was dressed as SuperMom, and had my Spiderkid and Superdaughter in tow. :-D
So YAY!

The downside is that we got rained out. At about 12 midnight, they shut the event down due to a big storm rolling in.
We all broke down camp FAST and made a mad dash to the cars.

BUT... in all the chaos and confusion, I ended up with a big bag of baked good in my cooler, and 2 big trays of cookies! Lol!
We had a bake sale set up, but nothing sold. Now there is probably about half of it on my kitchen table. YUM!

I'll add some pics later... I didn't take a single one- but a couple of friends took lots!

Oh, and I got to meet a sweet new baby. Born just 1 week ago to a very special friend. Awwwww....
She was almost enough to make me forget why I was there!

Rain, rain... go away

I do realize that we need this rain. Really, I do.

But I am so SICK OF IT!

The kids are camping in front of the TV. The dogs are camping in their crates, because they refuse to go out and potty in the rain.

We made plans to go to the zoo this week... not looking so good.
Of course, Cotton has managed to go fishing- but if we try to go as a family, you guessed it... we get rained out.

The house is looking good- since I have nothing to do but clean it.

I got some craft stuff done, and managed to give myself a couple of big burn blisters with the hot glue gun.

Ugh. I am just bored, bored, and bored some more.

More fishing fun

So Cotton found us this SWEET fishing hole.
And I do mean SWEET! We could freaking live at this place. Gorgeous dock, all landscaped, electricity, a sink, a refrigerator and a stereo system. Boats and life jackets that we are welcome to use, 2 covered slips, lawn chairs and tables, a fire pit...
It's totally the place to take girls fishing! lol!

It's owned by some wealthy folks that don't live there, and never ever use it, and my smart hubby made good buddies with the care taker! Woohoo!

So we sat on the slip for a while, fishing with minnows (which my daughter has decided she LOVES, and she really likes to carry a few balled up in her hand all day... EEEWWWWWW, gag me!)

"I may be a fishing tomboy, but I can still pose pretty!"

"No time for smiles, Mom- I am about to hook a big one!"

How about a boat ride?
Daddy gets to drive... loking a little sunburned here... maybe if he put a hat on that bald head?

The little folks navigate

Little man (with chocolate- his fave)

Baby girl (enjoying chips, her snack of choice- what kind of girl is she? Lol)
Oh, and can I take this oppurtunity to say that is "long wearing" lipstick on her face.
I woke up that morning just in time to catch her walking out of the bathroom, slathering it on.
She was darned proud of her make-up, too. She checked the mirror no less than 50 times that day! Silly girl!

No pictures of me this time, sorry folks!
No pictures of my fishing pole either... and do you know why?
Because a #$&^* (*@*%# FISH STOLE IT!!!!
Oh yea, that's right. I had it between my feet on the dock, loaded with a minnow. I looked up for HALF a SECOND, and I heard a splash. I look down and my pole is underwater, and ZOOMING out into the middle of the pond. FAST!
Cotton got onto me for not jumping in after it. His buddy said "I'll bet there was a monster on that hook!"
Judging by the speed of that thing pulling my pole, it probably was huge! But I just didn't feel like swimming, and while I really liked my rod and reel... I just wasn't willing to risk drowning for them. Lol.
Luckily, it wasn't my new pink one. (Which I had to become proficient with a little more quickly) But I still loved my other one, with it's shiny red reel, and glow in the dark rod. :-(

So, we were down one pole for the day.
Up quite a few fish, though.
And missy decided she wanted to "reel it in" just in time... Cotton threw out a lure for her, and she brought in the biggest fish of the day, a nice bass! GO BABY!
And of course- we all spent the day alone with our favorite people, which is always a treat!
